Thank you’s must be said today (and everyday, really) …here’s why…
Last Tuesday my friend, Katherine wrote a great article about my little family and I and our journey with zero waste and buy nothing for TreeHugger. A big thank you and a good squeezey hug, Katherine, for giving us a shout out and coming over to our place, and well, for being awesome. Secondly, I wanted to thank everyone who read the article , commented on it (even the nah-sayers), and shared it. It was quite a trip to open up my stats for this blog last Tuesday and see that the views had gone through the roof. Also to those who read my little blog. It means a lot that you take time out of your day to venture over here and read what I have to say. I know you don’t have to and there are probably a million things you could be doing and lots of other shinier, prettier, bigger blogs out there, so thank you for making me a part of your day. Thirdly, to my kids and hubby for going along with this idea in the first place. We’re changing our lives and our world and it’s been the best thing.
I try not to gripe on here, or vent too much. Mostly because I sometimes re-read my posts and the venty ones make me want to give myself a little slap for being so whiny when really it wasn’t that big of a deal in the first place. Also, I believe in whatever energy you put out there into the universe you receive back. I’m not trying to paint a rosy picture of my life. Sometimes it sucks and I question my sanity, but everyone does and I feel like there are enough blogs/sites/youtubes where you can find all the negativity your little heart desires; I don’t feel the need to spread the crap vibes here.
But I do want to be honest. I think I do that here. Let me know if there’s anything you’d like me to write about.
So again, thank you. I’m going to try and keep posting at least once a week. Spring decided to finally show up and summer’s around the corner. Nice weather brings out spontaneous adventures! Can’t wait.

Hi Kris, I was really pleased for you that your friend Katherine shared your blog! I was thinking how kind it was of her but also that you deserve being shared to a wider audience because you are doing something positive for your family and therefore for all of us. The hardest thing is changing our behavior – it is admirable that you have made such a big change. I look forward to reading about your summery, spontaneous adventures!

Hello, Kris…and the Treehugger article is why I signed up to read your blog. I love what you and your family are doing; it is inspiring! Thanks Lisa 🙂 To be honest with you , I though my hubby would roll his eyes at me, pat me on my head, and tell me I was cute. He totally surprised me with jumping on board. The kids are doing so reluctantly, but they’re still young and really have no choice. Our extended family is supportive for the most part. So, I’m not entirely sure what I would do if I’d been the only one. Probably just do it anyway…lol…lead by example, right? 🙂
We have been zero-wasting for about a year. Some months are better than others. When your starting out, each new day is a huge learning curve. It’s gets easier, keep going! Now, we are in the process of minimizing, room by room, collection by collection. And the paper!
a year! thanks awesome! i agree with 100%, everyday brings something new and I’m trying not to be hard on myself when my plan goes awry…good luck with your minimizing..that’s always been a favourite of mine:)
Hi Kris, I came across your blog via a post from The Minimalists about the article that appeared in The Treehugger. I’ve also had a bit of a wander around reading your blog.
I actually did write a long comment about my nephews and friend’s children and their expectations to have the latest and greatest stuff.
I’ve since deleted it because it did go on a bit but I do worry about what is happening with how much children expect.
Anyway, I was wondering if you’ll be getting a composting toilet? I saw one that uses earth worms a while back.
Do you use gray water for washing and in the garden?

Hey, thanks for stopping by. I would love to get a composting toilet, but the hubby is a hard sell on that one. Maybe someday. Our place is not set up right now for grey right now, though, again, I hope so in the future. Lots of renos still to happen.
